A History of Homewood Care

A History of Homewood Care

Homewood Care was opened in partnership by Philip Pembroke and Roger Anthony in 1970 at 64 Iliffe St Bexley. Philip Pembroke became the sole owner in the Mid 70’s and it has remained in the Pembroke family ever since. Since its opening Homewood has only ever had 4 Matrons and over time HWC has acquired surrounding property and as a result has seen significant extensions and upgrade with the most recent being completed in 2019. After the purchase of 5 disability homes in 2011 they built what is now known as Homewood Gardens which is a further extension of the Homewood nursing home and as such currently runs two facilities.

The name Homewood originates from Holmwood a country family property owned by one of the founding partners Roger Anthony. In August of 1981 Philip Pembroke who was then the sole owner died in a plane crash currently undiscovered in the Barrington Tops NSW. In honour of him a plaque can be found on site. Philip’s sons Andrew and Damien Pembroke are the current proprietors of Homewood Care.
